I remember you David ... in fact you emerged in my consciousness before I was aware of the existence of the other Lloyd namely Clive Hubert ! This happened when you scored the double century against India at - as far as I can recall - Lord's in the 1974 series. At that time I was an eight year old growing up in Bombay and I distinctly remember listening to the commentary on radio in the evening and getting quite frustrated as you carried on and on. Celebrity or not you were a good test cricketer in your time and can be proud of the fact.

David...Dont forget to get started on your business of selling Indian flags! I remember you saying that during World20/20. Now is your chance!

Even Sachin Tendulkar had faced a similar situation. When asked in an interview about his most embarrasing moments, he said he was once asked for an autograph and after complying he was asked something like 'May I also know your name?'. I can imagine the look on Sachin's face. I'm sure that couldn't have happened in India and something that perhaps happened early in his career. But still, every one has their share of embarrasment. You are not alone Bumble. Enjoy the rest of your stay in India. Good luck.

I am put in mind of the time one Wessel Johannes Cronje, touring the US and revelling in the lack of attention, was approached to his surprise by an autograph-seeking local. Having duly scribbled out both signature and best wishes, he was met with a frosty glare: "Are you really Pete Sampras?"

Bumble you legend! Thank God you were not mistaken for David Gower. When ever you were on AIR I had to tell my friends, its not the legendry Gower but one former poor England coach whom we beat in that epic super six clash in the 99 World Cup !

Thanks a lot David for sharing your experience, you are my favourite Commentator. Cricket is at its best when you and shastri are calling. So glad to know you are having fun on the trip. Well if people have mistaken you for a coach or umpire.. why do not you think about becoming one. I am sure you will be a wonderful coach, I think English team is in a desparate need to have someone like you give them mental coaching before every game, there is a lethargy to the english team, a lack of enthusiam, they need a cheerful person like you to remind them they are playing for fun and should enjoy their cricket, May be that will change their performance. Thanks again for the nice blog.
